About
Janine
A double impact highway traffic accident became chronic pain that swallowed the joy of living.
After our medical system had done all it could (which was a lot) I was obese, miserable, anxious and depressed. At 22 years old I struggled to do the simplest things, dishes, laundry, making love 🙁
I was diagnosed with IBS and Myofascial Pain Syndrome. There was little that could be done to help, I would have to learn to live with it the Orthopedic Surgeon told me. Possibly massage may help?
It did, and so did Acupuncture. Together they allowed me the space to take up Yoga and Tai Chi and eventually other Martial Arts and forms of joyful motion that allowed me to learn to move and live and love again.
I entered the Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapy and became a Remedial Massage Therapist officially in 1998. I immediately went to work in the clinic of a Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor (Dr. Lin Liu, thankyou forever) and eventually acquired the certification to practice acupuncture under my RMT designation.
I am always a student and have completed 2/3rd s of an undergrad degree through the University of Winnipeg in Neuroscience, my precious mentor Dr. Michael MacIntyre introduced me to the work of Jon Kabbat-Zin’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and changed my life and treatment room most profoundly. Mindful self awareness is somatic awareness, healing includes awareness in ways we can barely fathom when we are fogged with pain. Dr. Mac also introduced me to the incredible work of Dr. Kristen Neff and the practice of Mindful Self Compassion for which I am grateful every day.
